Quick answer

The Sift is three levels run in order: Wellspring Portal → Sift Meadows → Carapace. Enter at power 84, rerun Sift Meadows until you are around 96, then start Carapace at 108. A first clear of everything takes 45 to 55 minutes; after that, Carapace is the level you actually replay, because its elite pack density gives the best legendary drop rate per minute in Dungeons 2 — roughly one legendary every three loops, about 10 minutes a loop.

What you need before entering the Sift

LevelRecommended powerWhy
Wellspring Portal84Entry-level Sift mobs; failed activation usually means under-levelling, not bad mechanics
Sift Meadows96Chargers and echo shriekers stack damage quickly if you cannot kill the caster first
Carapace108Elite packs hit for a third of your health per swing, and both bosses punish slow clears

Running below these values is possible on lower difficulty tiers, but time-to-kill rises faster than your survivability, which turns every elite pack into a war of attrition.

  • Melee — Wellspring Blade or any fast one-hander with life steal. The Sift rewards clearing single targets fast over sweeping crowds.
  • Ranged — Echo Repeater. Its ricochet clears the narrow Sift Meadows corridors better than any single-target bow.
  • Artifact — one healing source plus one crowd-control artifact (Harmonizer Chime is best-in-slot once you have it).
  • Enchantments — sustain first, then single-target damage, then mitigation. This matches the ranking in our enchantment tier guide.
  • Armour — anything with vibration resistance. Sculk bosses stack damage through vibration ticks rather than single big hits.

Consumables to bring

  • 2 healing potions minimum for Sift Meadows, 3 for Carapace.
  • One speed or roll artifact of any tier — most Sift deaths happen while repositioning, not while attacking.
  • 6 to 8 food items if you are pushing Carapace loops back to back.

Level 1 - Wellspring Portal

Short, scripted, and mostly about not skipping the defending wave. Full unlock conditions, including how to fix a portal that refuses to light, are in How to Unlock the Sift Portal.

Objective

Reach the portal structure, clear the defending wave, and channel the frame. There is no boss here.

Route summary

  1. Follow the single corridor to the first fork, take the left route — the right route has one extra elite pack and the same exit.
  2. Clear the two echo casters on the raised ledge before dropping into the arena; they outrange every melee weapon from up there.
  3. Channel the frame once the arena is empty and do not move during the cast.

Chest locations

  • One chest in the corridor fork, on the right branch behind a breakable wall.
  • One chest behind the portal frame itself, visible only after the wave spawns.

Boss

None. The completion cache awards the Wellspring Blade, the highest base damage per hit among early Sift weapons.

Level 2 - Sift Meadows (full walkthrough)

Objective and exit conditions

Clear the route to the meadow exit gate; the gate opens on a kill count rather than a boss, so skipping packs makes the level longer, not shorter.

Step-by-step route

  1. Spawn to first elite pack — hug the left wall; the right side has a sculk sensor patch that spawns an extra patrol. Kill the echo shrieker in this pack first.
  2. Mid-level fork — two branches: left leads to a chest plus a medium pack, right leads to the fastest exit but with a charger ambush. Take left if you are below power 96; otherwise right saves about 90 seconds.
  3. Final wave before the exit — three waves of mobs funnel into one chokepoint. Stand behind the chokepoint rock so chargers path into it and stall, then clear with ricochet shots.
  4. Exit gate — the boss door sits behind the meadow clearing; the fight itself is covered in the Sculk Monstrosity guide.

Mob composition and counters

MobThreatCounter
Echo castersChip damage you cannot out-tradeKill first every time; they never reposition
Sculk chargersBurst that breaks channelsBait the charge around the chokepoint rock, then punish
Crawler swarmOverwhelm through numbersRicochet or any area enchantment
Warden-class patrolOne-shot slam below power 96Do not engage; it despawns once the exit gate opens

Every chest location

  1. Entrance alcove — behind the first breakable wall on the left.
  2. Left fork chest room — clear the medium pack to open the door.
  3. Ledge drop chest — drop down from the mid-level rocks before taking the right fork.
  4. Chokepoint side room — behind destructible sculk; easily missed during the final wave.
  5. Meadow clearing — behind the boss summoning circle, visible only after the boss is defeated.
  6. Secret rune room — one of the destructible sculk patches in the clearing opens a room with a guaranteed echo shard cache.

Secrets and optional rooms

Two destructible sculk patches hide rooms: one rune room with echo shards, one short parkour section ending in a Rare or better gear drop. All six chests are one-time — they do not respawn, so missing one during a farming run is permanent for that clear.

Level 3 - Carapace (full walkthrough)

Why Carapace is the best farming level

Carapace has the densest elite packs per minute of any Sift level, drops the Sculk Carapace Armour set from elite packs, and resets from the world map without replaying earlier levels. Sift Meadows takes about 14 minutes per clear for a smaller stack of rewards — Carapace loops in under 11 with better odds per minute.

Route and elite pack patterns

  1. Entry corridor — two elite packs spawn at fixed points; pull them one at a time into the corridor rather than fighting both.
  2. First chamber — three packs, one always armoured. Kill the armoured one last while the others are down, or your damage per second drops to nothing on it.
  3. Second chamber — skip the outer ring entirely. The outer ring has no elites and only padding; go straight through the middle.
  4. Reset point — enter via the world map each loop rather than walking back; the walking route adds nearly two minutes.
  • Enter from world map → clear the two corridor packs → first chamber → skip the second chamber’s outer ring → boss → extract.
  • Loop time: 9 to 11 minutes. Average output is about one legendary every three loops, plus echo shards every loop.

Carapace boss

The Harmonizer — a vibration boss whose shield rotation must be broken twice. Full tactics are in the Harmonizer boss guide.

First-clear rewards include echo shards and set pieces; repeat runs trade duplicates of the same pool, which is why legendary rolls are the realistic long-term goal. See the full table on the Dungeons 2 hub.

Common mistakes

  • Clearing every side room in Sift Meadows instead of pushing the high-density packs — it wastes the run timer and adds no loot value.
  • Fighting the warden-class patrol instead of waiting for it to despawn.
  • Using area enchantments against bosses; single-target always wins these fights.
  • Rewalking Carapace instead of resetting from the world map between loops.
  • Salvaging duplicate Sift gear before comparing its roll to what you already use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Minecraft Dungeons 2 Sift walkthrough take?

A clean first run through all three Sift levels takes roughly 45 to 55 minutes. A repeat Carapace farming loop takes about 9 to 11 minutes per cycle once you know the route.

What power level do you need for the Sift dimension?

Enter the Wellspring Portal at 84, Sift Meadows at 96, and Carapace at 108. Below those thresholds the Sculk Monstrosity enrage phase and Carapace elite packs deal damage that most builds cannot survive.

Are there missable chests in the Sift levels?

Yes. Six chests sit behind optional routes in Sift Meadows and four in Carapace, and none of them respawn after you leave the level. Two of the Sift Meadows chests are behind destructible walls that are easy to run past.

Can you replay Sift levels for loot?

Yes. Once cleared, both Sift Meadows and Carapace can be replayed from the world map, making Carapace the fastest repeatable source of Sift legendary drops, including the Sculk Carapace Armour set.
